Background
to the Chamber Choir
The
choir was formed in 1988 when Rosemary E. Mailey a local musician and
lecturer agreed to take over the Church Choir and the first concert
was performed that summer. Stretton Chamber Choir grew from
the original church choir and concerts now take place, on average,
twice
a year.
Works
performed included Rossini’s Stabat Mater, Schubert’s
Mass in G, Poulenc’s Gloria, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Walton’s
Te Deum, Elgar’s, The Music Makers in addition to a host of lighter
offerings at the Christmas Concerts.
Sadly
Rosemary’s
health caused her to resign as Musical Director and for the past
year the choir has been in recess but from September
2007 Brian Sunderland, an experienced and talented musician, has agreed
to take over and the choir looks forward to new challenges under his
direction.
